Loyalty Day at Veterans Memorial Park

| April 29, 2008

loyalty-day8.jpgLoyalty is described in the dictionary as “faithfulness or a devotion to a person or cause”.  Plato originally said that only a man who is just can be loyal, and that loyalty is a condition of genuine philosophy.  If this is true, than the beauty and philosophy of  Plato’s words shined like a brand new penny on Sunday, April 27th at Putnam County’s Veterans Memorial Park.

The spirit of this annual event was not dulled by the grey, overcast skies for both young and old came out to celebrate Loyalty Day.  What a glorious site to see so many happy, smiling faces as well as handsome soldiers of all ages in uniform.  It seemed that the bright spirit of the participants enjoying and sharing so many wonderful stories and tales might have kept the rain at bay.

Visitors were invited to share a soda, beer and some delicious food, which was happily cooked by the Veterans. The day was enhanced with festive music, parades and fun games for the kids.  Donations were humbly accepted, and there were raffles and drawings for a nice selection of prizes.

Next year, keep an eye of our Calendar so you too can join in the festivities.  Bring the whole family to honor our Veteran’s and share in a spirit of loyalty that should not be forgotten.

“A man’s country is not a certain area of land, of mountains, rivers, and woods, but it is a principle; and patriotism is loyalty to that principle.” George William Curtis
