ballooncake.jpgWant to do something out of the ordinary?  Right around the corner in Dutchess County you can experience the colors and wonders of their 2008 Balloon Festival July 18th, 19th and 20th at Waryas Park  in Poughkeepsie.  See “The Cake” at 80 feet this birthday cake, owned and operated by Keith Sproul of NJ, is sure to make everyone smile.  The festival is fun for the whole family with a variety of activities taking place throughout the day at Waryas Park. In addition to family shows and rides, carnival games will be on hand to challenge and entertain. Various types of live music will be available as well as an antique car show. Fireworks over the majestic Hudson River will complete the festival.

Easy access to the park from the Poughkeepsie train station.

The balloons launch from sites throughout the county at 6am & 6pm.  Best viewing is at Waray Park.

On Saturday, July 19ththere will be plenty to do at the event including a sightseeing cruise from 1-3 p.m. on the Spirit of the Hudson. departing from Waryas Park, Poughkeepsie, tickets are $25 per adult and $15 per child.

Catch the spirit on a Latin Cruise on the Spirit of the Hudsonout of Waryas Park from 7-10 p.m. with Spanish food and a dazzling fireworks display.
Tickets are $50 for adults;  $15 for children 4-12 and under 4 are free.

On Sunday, July 20th festival-goers will also have the option to experience the beautiful Hudson River first hand on two Spirit of the Hudson cruises. Attend a late lunch cruise from 2-4 p.m. with live music and dancing for $30 per person. Children under 12 are $15 .

If later is better for you, join the Spirit of the Hudson crew on a Summer Solstice Balloon Blast from 7-9 p.m. with dinner and live music for $35 per adult.  Each of these cruises requires reservations and a minimum of 40 guests. Reserve your seat now!
