The Putnam Human Society and all pet owners and lovers experienced a terrific day at the 2008 Strutt Your Mutt event at Veterans Memorial Park in Carmel on Saturday, September 20, 2008. The weather was perfect and the dogs were so well behaved. The dogs really seemed to enjoy meeting each other, and as we all know, dogs greet each other in a very unique way. It was also very heartwarming to see so many proud parents of adopted dogs.
Dogs that wore yellow bandanna’s were proud adoptees from the Putnam Human Society (Squiggy on the left was adopted by Conor and Liam Heine). Dogs wearing yellow ribbons, and there were many of them, were adopted from other shelters, and dogs wearing yellow “adopt me” coats were looking for a loving home.
Plenty of vendors were on site for satisfy all of your pet needs such as Sparkle Plenty Dog Grooming, The Beacon Barkery, Joshua Andres Homemade Doggie Cookies, Fromm Family Pet Food, and Pet -n-Play Luxury Pet Resort. For us humans, Bar-B-Que Bob was on hand serving up authentic smoked bar-b-que grilled food. The Putnam Human Society was very thankful to all its sponsors without whose support the event could not have been possible.
The event began at noon with the Blessing of the Animals by Father Langone. After the blessing the fun really began with various dog contests such as Best Costume, Owner Look-alike, Waggiest Tail, Smoochiest Dog, Most Talented Dog, the Best Howler at the Moon, and more. Raffles were also on sale for fabulous doggie prize baskets. But, even if you didn’t leave with a basket full of goodies for your pet, everyone who showed up was a winner because the dogs really had fun.
For Sheltered Dogs, the event was a treat outside of the shelter and a chance to be adopted. The dogs were able to roam around with volunteer handlers and
get a taste of what life will be like when they find a loving family. So, instead of buying a dog, how about taking the kids to the Putnam Humane Society and seeing if you can make a connection with one of their dogs or cats?
Starting next week, LocalPutnam.com will feature “Pet of the Week” to help the Putnam Human Society find good homes for these wonderful dogs and cats…. so stay tuned and sign up today - It’s Free.
