Hudson River Valley Ramble

Every September for the last ten years, the Hudson River Valley Ramble “celebrates the history, culture and natural resources of the Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area, as well as the amazing landscape, communities, and trails throughout the region.”

According to their website, “what began as a modest event that was held during one weekend in September, has grown in popularity and in numbers over the years. This year, the Ramble takes places over four weekends in September and features nearly 300 individual events being offered in communities from Saratoga to NYC.”

Here is a sample of the upcoming events – remember events are only for the month of September so book now:

The Night Ride of Sybil Ludington – A bus tour:
Saturday, September 26, from 10 am-12:30 pm.

History enthusiasts and children of all ages can follow the compelling tale and trail of teenager Sybil Ludington, a Revolutionary War heroine celebrated as the female Paul Revere.  Vincent T. Dacquino, author of Sybil Ludington, A Call to Arms, hosts The Night Ride of Sybil Ludington, a bus tour and talk that offers a dramatic rendition of her nighttime ride.  This tour begins at the Mahopac Public Library. Register in-person with payment at the Information Desk at the Library, or contact IHARE for further information at 914-933-0440.

MANDEVILLE HOUSE TOUR
Enjoy a guided tour of Mandeville House, the oldest house in Garrison. Built in 1737 by Jacob Mandeville, a young man of Dutch origin, the house was a strategic point during the American Revolution and served as the headquarters of Gen. Israel Putnam. Many Revolutionary War heroes were quartered at the house, the most notable being Gen. George Washington. Be sure to take note of the old road in front of the house that was traveled by Gen. Washington and other Revolutionary War heroes. Dutch Legacy/Revolutionary War Weekend Event. EXPLORE THE HUDSON BY SAIL
9/19/2009 ONLY
 Sail the Hudson much like Henry Hudson did. Join members of the Ossining Community Sailing Club on a 2-3 hour sail on the Hudson River from Ossining to Croton Point Bay. Non- sailors are welcome! Boats will be handled by club members and life jackets provided. You’ll drink in wonderful views of the Palisades cliffs, Croton River estuary, Tappan Zee Bridge and Tappan Zee, the widest part of the Hudson River, so be sure to bring your camera! Wear non-slip shoes (no high heels). Dress in layers; it’s cooler on the water than on land. We will supply the PFD (personal flotation device).
