candlelight_festival“Cold Spring by Candlelight: Holiday Festival and House Tours on Main Street America” is the premier holiday destination event of the year and it’s set for Saturday, December 5, 2009 from noon – 6 p.m. in Cold Spring – on – Hudson, New York.

“Cold Spring by Candlelight,” now in its seventh year, is a day and evening event with tours of 12 unique and historic houses and sites in the Village of Cold Spring and nearby Nelsonville. Cold Spring’s stores and shops will be open late for holiday shopping and the village restaurants will be offering specials to event attendees. Expect carolers, holiday music concerts, visits from Old St. Nick, and holiday storytelling throughout the event.

And all proceeds from the event will go to Partners with PARC, which provides funding to programs and services for developmentally disabled children and adults throughout Putnam County.

“This is our seventh annual tour and visitors can expect to see new houses and new attractions during this year’s event plus a few surprises too,” said Rand Bridget Otten, director of development for PARC and creator of Cold Spring by Candlelight. “This tour is a wonderful way to kick off the holiday season, and in the spirit of giving, all proceeds support children and adults with developmental disabilities.”

“Unique historic homes, unique gift shops, all decorated like a Currier and Ives print, plus our small town hospitality make Cold Spring by Candlelight an authentic holiday experience,” said Jonathan Kruk, renowned Hudson Valley Storyteller who has participated in the last five tours.

Bundle up and enjoy this self-guided walking tour back in time through the Village of Cold Spring or hop on the trolley for a warmer way around the village’s sites and attractions. Holiday music, storytelling, visits and performances by: Old St. Nick, the Merry Minstrels, Renowned Storyteller Jonathan Kruk, St. Christopher’s Inn Men’s Choir, and much more. And returning this year, horse-drawn carriage rides through the quaint streets of Cold Spring. Metro-North riders can easily take the Hudson Line to Cold Spring and be within easy walking distance of the entire event.

House tours will run from noon to 6 p.m. throughout the Village of Cold Spring. This is a self-guided walking tour and two trolleys will also run throughout the day (just 50 cents per ride) Free parking will be available throughout the village.

Advance ticket prices for the event are: $25 for adults, $20 for seniors, and $15 for children under age 12. Day of event tickets, if available, may be purchased at Cold Spring Village Hall, 85 Main St., Cold Spring starting at 11 a.m. The 2008 tour sold out, so it is recommended to purchase tickets in advance.
