Jazz and Blues Kicks off BAMM Concert Series

| March 17, 2010

The 3rd Annual BAMM Concert Series at Mahopac Public Library begins with a jazz and blues performance by The Brian Conigliaro Quartet on Sunday, March 21 at 2:00 pm.  A talented guitarist and harmonica player, Conigliaro has shared the stage with notable artists such as Lionel Hampton, Ray Charles, Dizzie Gillespie and Patti Lupone.  He will be accompanied at this concert by Michael Goetz on bass, Chris Parker on drums, and a special guest on piano.  Registration is requested for this concert; walk-ins are welcome.

Brian Conigliaro, a Mahopac resident, has been called a “great down home jazz/blues harmonica player” by LA Times Jazz Critic Leonard Feather.  Whether he’s performing classic jazz pieces from the 1920’s through the 1980’s, or his own original compositions, Conigliaro is a versatile musician whose styles include rock, reggae, country, classical, and funk.  He has performed or recorded with an eclectic mix of artists ranging from Lou Rawls to Tiny Tim, and Nancy Wilson to Snoop Dog. His concert at the Library is sure to be a memorable event!

The BAMM (books, art, music  in Mahopac) Concert series was initiated in 2008 to highlight the talent of local musicians and bring world class music to Putnam County audiences.  This year’s series, sub-titled “Mixed Bag,” includes performers who are new to the series including Emile Menashé, Out to Lunch, Too Human, and a group founded in 2008 called mondoRAJ.  Musical styles will range from jazz to swing, Afro-Brazilian to Rhythm & Blues, and classical guitar to the Great American Songbook.  The six concerts scheduled in 2010 will feature a variety of instruments including the fiddle, dulcimer, conga drums, acoustic guitar, piano, mandolin and percussion.  This is live music at its best – and it’s happening in Putnam County!

All of the BAMM concerts are free and open to the public. In lieu of admission, the Library initiated the BAMM Lends a Hand Project – an outreach effort that encourages concert goers to bring one non-perishable food item to each concert they attend.  All of the donations will be delivered to the St. John’s Food Pantry in Mahopac to assist community members in need.

Support for the BAMM Concert Series at Mahopac Public Library is provided, in part, with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts Decentralization Program.  In Putnam County, the Decentralization program is administered by the Putnam Arts Council.  Additional funding is generously provided by the Mahopac National Bank.

Registration is requested for The Brian Conigliaro Quartet concert; register online at http://www.mahopaclibrary.org/, or call 845-628-2009, ext 100.  Mahopac Public Library, located at 668 Route 6 in Mahopac, is a handicap accessible facility.
