Collaborative Concepts at Saunders Farm
Want to do something different? How about taking a nice walk across 100 acres of farmland at Saunders Farm in Garrison for the 2010 Collaborative Concepts? This year’s event features artwork from over 60 local, national and international artists. All the sculpture installations are temporary, and many works are for sale.
You can bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the great outdoors in the Hudson Valley. You will see Black Angus cattle grazing peacefully in the nearby pastures as you walk around the farm.
Come to the big kick-off reception and grand opening on September 4, 2010 (rain date September 5, 2010) at Saunders Farm in Garrison, New York. Come meet the artists and enjoy live music. Performance Art from 1:00-3:30 pm. Music Program 3:30-6:30 pm. The Grand Opening Party is free. The Art Exhibit is also free and open to the public daily from 10:00am to dusk from September 4 until October 31, 2010. The LocalPutnam Staff toured the exhibit last year and it was well worth the drive and walk. It took us a little over two hours to casually stroll the entire farm and admire all the sculptures and various art exhibits.
One of artists that I’m personally looking forward to seeing back at the farm is Marcy B. Freedman, performance artist. This year she will be presenting an interactive, one-on-one, face-to-face performance piece called, “The Farmer’s Daughter: Planting Seeds of Art in Your Mind.” Check out our interview with Marcy last year as she talks about how she got started in the performance arts and her “Tree Hugger” performance.
In addition to amazing works or art, another amazing part of the day is that the horses graze around you and they aren’t afraid to come up for a rub on the nose. As mentioned, the exhibition is free and can be viewed from 10 am to dusk, September 4 until October 31, 2010. At the entrance to the exhibition, visitors can pick up a map with the location of each sculpture off the table as you walk towards the hill. When visiting Saunders Farm remember that it is an active farm and don’t leave your trash behind.
