06/16/2012 – Clearpool Weekend Nature Series – Carmel, NY
Clearpool, Putnam County’s premier outdoor education and recreation facility, opens its 350 acres of preserved forestland with special monthly activities for families, environmental enthusiasts, and anyone who wants to get outside!
Held on the 3rd Saturday of every month, programs offer fun and challenging hands-on activities and outdoor skill-building for all ages with focus on environmental awareness and sustainability. Learn from staff experts and guest instructors as you explore Clearpool and all its beauty. Each activity takes advantage of the season, from winter snowshoeing to Great Swamp canoeing.
Making Simple Bird Feeders – Sat Jan 21
Winter is the best time to feed our backyard birds! It’s a great skill to learn and an activity you can enjoy from the warmth of your home. Join our staff in creating simple feeders from old milk cartons, juice containers, and other household items and learn more about our native birds.
Snowshoe Hike – Sat, Feb 18
Clearpool has adult and youth snowshoes for the family to explore and enjoy the winter scenery. Our staff will guide and instruct you on how to use snow shoes and offer a little history of the land. Afterwards, we’ll retreat to the lodge for warm treats!
Maple Sugaring & Annual Pancake Breakfast – Sat, March 17
February to March is the best time for making maple syrup. Visit our sugarhouse for a demonstration of the sugaring process and then sit down to a hearty breakfast. Outdoor activities and crafts for all!
