“Call of the Wild,” an exhibit of collages and masks created by students from Fulmar Road Elementary School, has been installed in the Young Arts Gallery at Mahopac Public Library. These artworks, created under the direction of art teacher Sharon Tobin, exemplify Fulmar Road’s year-long theme of learning and adventure: The Spirit of Wildlife. The “Call of the Wild” exhibit will remain on view at the Library through February 18.
All of the students at Fulmar Road are learning about the animal friends with whom they share the planet through science, literature, music and art. Their imaginative and lively artwork was created using colored tissue paper, paper maché, string, feathers and other mixed media material. Wild animals, birds and fish are depicted in their habitats including whales, dolphins, giraffes, owls, peacocks, octopus, deer, tigers, bears and zebras. The three-dimensional animal masks are lifelike representations of student’s favorite wildlife.
The Young Arts Gallery at Mahopac Public Library presents artwork created by students from the local elementary schools throughout the year. The gallery is located on the first floor of the Library in the entryway to the Children’s Wing, and is open for viewing during regular Library hours.
The “Call of the Wild” exhibit will remain on view through February 18; a closing reception will be held for the artists and community members on Thursday, February 18 from 6:30-8 pm.
