Paws for a Cause is a joint effort between Westchester K-9 and Margaret Rizzuto Photography to help support the Putnam Humane Society (PHS).

The Putnam Humane Society (PHS) cares for hundreds of animals each year.  Participating in this event is a fun and easy way for you to help make a difference at the Putnam Humane Society while getting professional portraits of your pet.  Participants should call Margaret Rizzuto Photography at 845 621-3183 to schedule their pet’s mini session.  Sessions and a 5×7 gift print are complimentary with donations.  Scheduling in advance is encouraged.

The Putnam Human Society is a non-profit organization serving Putnam County, and relies on donations from businesses and individuals to help support their programs.  The mission of the PHS is to promote responsible and compassionate care for animals.

Regristration fee is $10 per dog or $15 for a family of dogs.  People admission and parking are free.  Rain date is September 26, 2010.  There will be several dog contests such as longest hair, sloppiest kisser, softest coat, cutest puppy, mid-aged wonders, pet tricks, and more.  Over 200 raffle pizes will be given away.  There will also be an animal blessing, dog demonstrations, live music, and many vendors offering discounts. 

All proceeds benefit the Putnam Humane Society.  Bring a chair or blanket and enjoy a nice day with your dog friends.

The park-wide family and best friend event will include demonstrations by agility dogs, dancing dogs, K-9 search and rescue dogs, therapy dogs, pet psychics, the local SkyHoundz disc flying competition, puppy bowl, puppy kissing booth, Zooky the clown, facepainting, pony rides, all day musical entertainment,  doggie chill zones, contests, tie dyeing, blessing of the dogs, a pet food and supply donation booth, raffles, vendors, Grateful Dog Walk, microchipping and fingerprinting, food, and more.

Oh yes, Fido may come also if he follows these rules: is vaccination current, is on a six foot lead or shorter,there is only one dog per adult handler, and no shock collars or retractable leads are used.  But if fido has issues with other dogs, children or adults, he should wait for you at home.

The dog bath includes dry and brush and cost $15 for large dogs and $10 for small dogs.  Additional services include $10 for a nail trim, $40 for micro chipping and the ultimate in luxury and saving is the Spa treatment that includes all of the above for only $50.

All proceed go directly to the Putnam Humane Society.

Dutchess:
What a beautiful girl she is! Dutchess is a Rhodesian Ridgeback, Pit mix who is wonderful with humans, but is very particular of what dogs she likes.  Her sad little face will melt your heart!  She had belonged to a young man who went off to college and was brought to our shelter because the parents did not have time to care for her.

Dutchess is only about 2 years old and would make a wonderful addition to a home without another pet. Come visit her and take her for a walk. She doesn’t understand why she’s here and not in a loving home!   Dutchess is up to date on her vaccinations, microchipped and spayed. Her adoption fee is $120.
 
Harmony:
This sweet, beautiful cat was adopted and brought back because of allergies in the family. She is so sad and doesn’t understand why she’s back at the shelter again and not in a home of her own. To see her is to love her!  Come meet her at our shelter. She’ll melt your heart.  Harmony is up to date on her vaccinations, microchipped and spayed. Her adoption fee is $100.
 
Ask about their Senior Foster Program. The PHS pays approved medical expenses. Some of our senior dogs and cats desperately need to be in loving homes.

 The PHS will also be participating in a concert at Arts On The Lake, 640 Route 52, Carmel, NY next Friday, February 12, 2010 called, “My Furry Valentine”. It is a singer/songwriter circle dedicated to songs of love for people and PETS. The songwritter circle will feature four singer/songwriters from the area, Katie Mac, Steve Kirkman, Peter Calo and Susan Kane. It’ll be fun.

Below is Rudy, one of the most loved dogs at PHS.  The staff has grown to love him but can’t take him home because they already have a house full of animals.  Rudy is 6 years old and in great health. Featured Pets of the Week

Puck:

This very handsome guy was returned to the shelter after 9 years after his adoptive family bought a dog and they didn’t get along. They decided to keep the dog and returned Puck. Puck doesn’t understand why he isn’t with his family anymore. He is a love! He is very affectionate and is a favorite among Putnam Humane volunteers.  He is up to date on all his vaccinations, neutered  and is microchipped. Ask about our Senior program.

This sweet, dog was found on a secluded country road and nobody has come to claim him. We’re unsure of his age, but he is very athletic and agile. Dusty would do well with a very active family. Once he gets to know you, he will be your best friend! Come and meet him and take him for a walk. Dusty is up to date on all his vaccinations, neutered and microchipped. His adoption fee is $120
